Chapter 10

“Oh wow,” said Nathanial as he walked in through the front door of Alexis’s apartment and looked about. “You weren’t kidding. This is a bit different than I imagined.”

Alexis’s face went pale as she turned and looked at Nathanial. “Worse?”

Nathanial’s face was tight, holding an expression of shock and awe as he took a few steps into her apartment with Alexis still standing at the door in a panic. He looked around slowly at the living space before turning back around, staring at Alexis with wide eyes. He looked closely at her as his face reverted back to normal and a smirk appeared from the side of his mouth. “It’s exactly what I imagined,” he said in a more relaxed expression, allowing Alexis to calm down and ending her state of panic. “I envisioned this to be where you lived, down to the drapes on the windows.”

Alexis shook her head. “Yeah, this is my boring, New York City apartment.”

“It’s not boring,” said Nathanial as he walked up to Alexis and placed his arm around her waist. “It’s charming.”

“Charming?”

“Yeah, charming,” continued Nathanial as he leaned and kissed Alexis on the lips. “This apartment reminds me of you.”

Alexis smiled as the color returned to her face. “And why do you say that?” she asked. “Why do you say this apartment reminds you of me?”

Nathanial released her waist and stepped over to the couch in the living room, looking around the room at the various pieces of furniture and decoration. “Those curtains over there,” he said as he pointed toward the window. “The purple hue reminds me of the eye shadow you wore on the first day we met. It was the first thing about your face that I noticed, because it highlighted your beautiful eyes which matched your incredibly tanned skin tone. The couch here against the wall is a dark, leather that makes me think of your personality and how mysterious you can be, but how really comfortable you are.”

“You are making that up,” she laughed as she shook her head. “The line about the curtains was pretty good but the couch is a bit of a reach.”

“But it’s the truth!” he said with a convincing smile. “That lamp over there on the end table, with the soft, milky shade on it, the light from it reminds me of your bright personality!”

Alexis laughed as she walked over to Nathanial and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling herself in close. “Look you,” she said with authority as she looked deeply into his eyes. “I don’t think you need to charm your way into my good graces anymore. I can see through it all.”

“Oh, can you?” he asked with another quick retort. “I haven’t even started to compare your radiance to that television over there.”

“Please don’t,” she laughed. “I don’t know if I can handle much more of that tonight.”

“And why not?” asked Nathanial. “Why can’t you handle anymore of my devilish charm?”

Alexis leaned in and kissed him on the lips. “Because it’s getting late,” she said as she pecked him on his lips.
